FAITH
Faiths and Institutions Together for Health
Project Faith in Youth is a faith-based program working with diverse faith communities in Orange County to elevate substance abuse prevention on their agenda.
MISSION
Faith in Youth’s mission is to build the capacities of Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs) to deliver alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention services to their young congregants.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES
Goal: To reduce alcohol, tobacco and other drug use among youth.
Objectives:
- As a result of a countywide outreach campaign, at least 30 Faith-Based Organizations will indicate their intent to participate, and at least 20 will actively participate, in activities designed to increase their organization’s capacity for involvement in ATOD prevention.
- As a result of training provided for at least 50 Faith-Based youth ministry and/or health workers, 80% of those trained will demonstrate knowledge of ATOD prevention concepts, principles, and strategies, and a favorable attitude toward incorporating ATOD prevention strategies/practices in their respective youth or health ministries.
- At least three Faith-Based Organizations will have completed detailed plans for implementing a science-based ATOD prevention service project within the framework of their respective youth or health ministry operations.
SERVICES & RESOURCES
Faith in Youth offers the following to faith communities throughout Orange County:
- Facilitated youth-adult dialogues on teen alcohol and other drug issues
- Facilitated youth panels on living drug-free
- Presentations on alcohol, tobacco and other drug-related topics
- Parent education focusing on asset building
- Technical assistance in building prevention resource libraries
- Technical assistance in planning, implementing and evaluating ATOD-free and prevention focused events
FAITH COALITION
FAITH (Faiths and Institutions Together for Health) Coalition is a partnership with a mission to build bridges of understanding and collaboration among faith-based youth and adult leaders and prevention providers in Orange County. Organized in November 2000, the Coalition serves as an Advisory Board to Project Faith in Youth.
General meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of the month from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Community Service Programs, Inc. at 1821 E. Dyer Rd., Suite 200, Santa Ana, CA 92705.
