The giant blue snowflakes lining the Huntington Beach pier are more than just seasonal décor, they serve as a reminder of the youth in the city who need help and support during the holidays and upcoming year.
The 15th annual Light a Light of Love event to benefit the Huntington Beach Youth Shelter was held on Sunday in downtown and drew hundreds to watch as the pier was set aglow with twinkling lights.
Each snowflake represents a sponsorship from someone in the community or a local business to the shelter, which offers support and services for at-risk youth. The shelter is open 24-hours to children who need it and offers assistance such as a warm bed, meals and counseling.
In recent years, the shelter has struggled to keep its doors open and relies heavily on donations from their annual Light a Light of Love event, organizers have said.
The event features festive music, dancing, and a children's parade, which featured the World Champion Ocean View Little League served as the Grand Marshals.
