Statistics uncover a frightening picture of elder/dependant abuse in this country.  According to the Orange County Medical Association, approximately 10 percent of older adults are victims of abuse.  One out of every 20 elderly and/or dependent adults will be a victim of neglect, physical, psychological or financial abuse this year.

The problem may continue to increase with the number of elder/dependent American’s in our nation continuing to increase.  Adults over age 65 will number about 52 million in the year 2020 and adults age 85 and older are the fastest growing group.

As the elder/dependant population multiplies, so will the incidence of elder abuse, that is, if we don’t see the signs.  By recognizing the seriousness of the problem, we can take action to prevent it.
