Child Dependency Services staff provides assistance and support to children preparing to testify in dependency cases, ensuring the safety and comfort of the children. Working with County Counsel, the Dependency Witness Specialist coordinates the appearance of subpoenaed witnesses for dependency cases. The Dependency Victim Advocate works with Social Services and County Counsel to ensure that child abuse victims receive services. The advocate is responsible for the provision of assistance to children in dependency cases in order to assist with resources, mitigate the impact on victimization, case investigation, and/or court appearances, and CAST (Child Abuse Services Team). Child Dependency Services staff works in conjunction with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Advocates and Social Services to offer support to children in child dependency cases. Victim/Witness also partners with the BARK (Beach Animals Reading with Kids) Program which provides care dogs to assist with calming children prior to attending dependency proceedings.
All referrals to this program must come from either County Counsel or Social Services Agency.
