Volunteers are an important part of our success and show our clients that there are individuals in the community who care about their well-being. CSP offers volunteer opportunitites for individuals, civic groups, businesses and corporations.
Sexual Assault Volunteer Advocate - Volunteer Now!
Assist in providing services to survivors of sexual assault/abuse and their families to help reduce the trauma associated with a crime. Respond to hotline calls and/or provide on-scene advocacy at hospitals.
Skills and Qualifications: Must be able to communicate with empathy and concern. Be patient, non-judgmental and able to demonstrate sensitivity to the cultural/ethnic diversity of the service population. All volunteers must attend the 48-hour training on all aspects of rape and sexual assault, crisis intervention, listening skills, cultural diversity and sexual assault and specific populations. As required by the state of California, volunteers must attend volunteer meetings for on-going training to maintain their certification.
Hours: Volunteer counselors work at least two on-call shifts each month. Monday through Friday shifts are 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the following morning. Weekend shifts are 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m.
Youth Shelter Volunteer - Volunteer Now!
The Youth Shelters welcome volunteers who would like to donate their time and share their talents with the residents by leading a group in a number of subjects, such as arts and crafts, gardening, cooking, music, yoga or other therapeutic topics. We are always open to new ideas! Additionally, the shelters are always looking for volunteers to donate meals, decorate for the holidays, or assist with house maintenance and upkeep.
Skills and Qualifications. Must be 21 years or older to volunteer directly with the residents. All volunteers are required to undergo background checks and finger printing/Live-scan in addition to completing a health screen/TB test and CPR/First Aid certification. Volunteers are provided further information about all of these requirements after meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator. For those under 21 years old looking to volunteer, there are other volunteer opportunities, such as preparing meals to drop off to the shelter, hosting a drive at your school (to collect hygiene products, sports equipment, art supplies, etc.), or decorating the shelter for the holidays.
Hours and Locations: No minimum weekly or monthly commitment required, flexible scheduling, with availability in the mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. Shelter locations: Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach and Tustin.
Mediator Volunteer - Volunteer Now!
Provide mediation services to disputing parties, document contact with clients on appropriate forms, conduct necessary follow-up with disputants, provide resources and referrals, assist with special projects or events as needed, and attend advanced trainings.
Skills and Qualifications: Mediation training is required in compliance with state standards as defined in the California Dispute Resolution Programs Act of 1986, Business and Professionals codes EC.465, et seq. Volunteers must be 18 years or over. Bilingual capabilities welcome.
Hours and Locations: No minimum weekly or monthly commitment required, Flexible scheduling. Dispute Resolution Services locations: Central Justice Center (Santa Ana) and Harbor Justice Center (Newport Beach). Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., occasional afternoons or Saturdays.
